Conference social activities
After a long, thought-provoking day at conference you will probably want to relax and wind down. Social events will be run on the Friday and Saturday of the conference. They are a great opportunity to chat to other delegates and enjoy Melbourne, so you are encouraged to come along.
Day 1 – Lawn bowls and drinks!
To help you unwind after the inspiring sessions from the first day of the conference, we will be hosting a lawn bowls evening so you can relax and mingle with fellow delegates. (BBQ is provided)
Lawn bowls will be held at the North Fitzroy Bowling Club at 7.00 pm for pre dinner – lawn bowls commences at 8.30. located at 578 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy North.
To get there by public transport from Melbourne Uni, catch the 200 bus on Farady St (which crosses onto Swanston St) then hop off at Brunswick St and catch the 112 tram up Brunswick St to the lawn bowls venue.
Day 2: Critical Mass!
- Friday 28th November: You can either have the night off or participate in the Critical Mass birthday bike ride! (this is not an EWB organised event)
Critical mass is a dis-organisation or rather it’s an organised coincidence. Conceived in San Francisco, Critical Mass is a monthly bike ride that occurs simultaneously in nearly 100 cities worldwide. Critical mass takes place in Melbourne on the last Friday of each month with up to a thousand cyclists meeting at 5.30pm at the State Library of Victoria in central Melbourne. This growing international movement aims to raise awareness of cycling as a healthier and more environmentally friendly mode of transportation. Although Critical Mass has achieved heights such as Bolte Bridge in 2003 this year’s critical mass will likely follow the more scenic routes of Melbourne’s suburbs.
So after a day of listening to speakers, why don’t you come and participate in a relaxing ride around Melbourne as a show of support of this radical movement for a more sustainable future. For more info go to: http://www.criticalmass.org.au/melbourne/
Day 3 – Conference After Party
Saturday 28th November: Cocktail party @ The Mint Bar, featuring live music and finger food from 6.30pm
To celebrate the finale of the conference, you’re invited to the infamous Conference finale party held at The Mint, a classy bar located at the historic old Melbourne mint.(finger food will be provided)
The Mint is located Corner of La Trobe and William Streets, Melbourne.
To get to The Mint from Melbourne Take a tram South down Swanston St and then hop off at La Trobe St and take a tram towards Flagstaff Gardens (right at La Trobe St).
